A golden night SUNY Delhi wins gold and the ACF National Student Team Championship.
Five students representing ACF Chefs & Cooks of the Catskill Mountains, students from the State University of New York at Delhi, Delhi, N.Y., won the American Culinary Federation, Inc.’s, (ACF) Student Team New York State and Northeast Region Championship, and tonight the ACF National Championship the competition is sponsored by R.L. Schreiber, Inc.
The team is comprised of the following student culinarians: Julie Hernandez, of Delhi; Kenneth Liranzo, of New York; Joseph Michaud, of Gansevoort, N.Y.; Chase Devine of Brackney, PA; and Sarah Thurgood, of Bovina Center, N.Y. The team is coached by Victor Sommo, CEC and James Margiotta. The team manger is Tom Recinella, CEC, AAC

HOT FOOD TEAM
Wednesday August 4th
Today individual team members are spending time with family who traveled to Anaheim to share in this wonderful experience. A few have decided to visit area beaches and I am sure DISNEYLAND may also be in their plans. The anticipation builds waiting until tomorrow's Grand Ball to learn if this is the year. Please stay updated on this blog and you will share in this experience with us.

ACF COMPETITION - UPDATE 7:55 PM (PST)
ANAHEIM, CA 7:55PM (PST)
The competition is over and the SUNY Delhi team did very well. We are very proud of the team as they worked very hard and left nothing to chance at today's ACF Student Team National Championship. The food came up on time, looked fantastic and was exactly as it should be hot food hot and cold food cold. The early morning start competition and clean-up left the team ready for some much deserved sleep. A dinner for family and team members is planned for this evening.
Feedback from the judges was positive all we can do now is wait until this coming Thursday evening August 5th for the Grand Ball when the competition winners will be announced. We are very proud of the team and appreciate everyone's support.

The SUNY Delhi Hot Food Team is awake, rested and ready to challenge for the ACF National Championship. After a long day yesterday team members are:

ACF CULINARY STUDENT TEAM COMPETITION
Greetings from Anaheim
Today's theme song of choice is from The Beachboy's melody in a hit song that refers to the #405. Today the team spent a considerable amount of time on the #405. The song will be permanently etched in everyone's mind. Final shopping and preparation.
An early night for the team and an early morning in preparation for the competition tomorrow Tuesday August 3rd.
Thanks for your encouragement it is appreciated by the entire team.

24 Hours and Counting!
FINAL DAYS BEFORE THE COMPETITION
California driving was the theme for Sunday as we made runs for key ingredients. COSTCO has become our favorite place to shop and the staff just let's us walk in without seeing the COSTCO card. Our SUNY Delhi Culinary Arts team shirts have made for the conversation piece as a number of people have come up to us in stores and inquired why we are here and what we are doing? We have met some wonderful people in California especially an elderly man and his son. The man- Joseph moved here from Cortland, NY during WWII, he was initially stationed here and then was shipped out to the Pacific theater during the war. After the war he returned to this area and stayed he seemed to enjoy reminiscing. It was quite obvious our discussion brought back many wonderful memories for him.
Today Monday August 2nd will be full with team meetings, a judges meeting for the competing teams and for the first time the team will be able to see their station for the competition.

SUNY DELHI CULINARY ARTS
GREETINGS FROM SUNNY CALIFORNIA!
While our hotel is located within walking distance of DISNEYLAND we have yet to see Mickey, Minnie or the gang. We have seen lots of families especially young children. Almost all the little girls are dressed up in "Snow White" costumes while the young boys tend to be satisfied wearing "Goofy" hats.
The team slept in this morning while the coaches - Chef Sommo, James Margiotta, team manager Chef Recinella, Brian Hutzley and myself discussed the plan for the day. We made a few early morning trips and returned to the hotel to pick-up the team. Team coaches and manager departed for parts North of the City while Brian, myself and the team went shopping for prep items at a local Sprouts Famers Market (Very similar to a Whole Foods Market).
Interesting California fact: when asking for directions you are immediately told in miles how far away you are, we quickly learned that while the miles may be accurate the trip in California traffic could last more than an hour one way. After the first trip we learned to ask for time as well as miles when asking for directions at the concierge desk. Additional keys to California: (1) Stay away from the interstate highways and travel the side streets whenever possible. (2) Multiple lane changes are a required survival skill. and (3) I am told transplants from other parts of the U.S. upon arrival in California sign-up for a specialized class in "How to drive in California."
Dinner tonight at a local restaurant and then an early day tomorrow with a full schedule for the team.

Anaheim Arrival
Friday July 30th - Challenging travel day!
Arrived safely in Anaheim at approximately 7:30pm EST - 4:30pm PST after a very challenging travel day that began with our departure from the SUNY Delhi campus at 2:30am EST. Upon our arrival at LaGuardia Airport this morning we were advised that our plane was being cancelled and new travel plans would need to be made via an 800#. Special thanks to Colleen at Catskill Travel saved the day as we were able to get all eight members of our travel group on the same plane with only a three hour arrival delay from our original travel itinerary. The advance team arrived early this morning in Anaheim and met us at the airport.
Once settled in our hotel rooms we were confident in taking on the California drivers and went for dinner at Bucca di Beppo's. Dinner was fantastic and just what everyone needed after traveling to Anaheim by both plane and van.
Saturday July 31st will be spent making food purchases, receiving overnight food supply shipments from SUNY Delhi and a most important a final day of rest for the team before their final preparations begin.
We are all very proud of our team and wish them every success as they begin their final preparations for the ACF Championship on Tuesday August 3rd.
